MIGIZI provides a strong circle of support that nurtures the educational, social, economic, and cultural development of American Indian youth.
For over 44 years, MIGIZI has served American Indian youth in various innovative programs that are culturally grounded, participatory, and fully engage youth in a self-directed path to holistic wellness and success in education and employment.
Current Programs
Indigenous Pathways
Indigenous Pathways brings career development and income to youth ages 14-24 who are either currently enrolled in school or want to re-enroll in a diploma or GED program. We offer a pathway in media and social media marketing (First Person Productions) and STEM education dedicated to sustainable, green energies (Green Jobs Pathway). Youth are paid $13.75 per hour for up to 60 hours over 10 weeks after school, 4 days a week. They may pursue an internship with a partner organization or with MIGIZI for contracted projects once training is complete.
Cultural, Leadership, Academic, Wellbeing (CLAW)
After school, youth can partake in our virtual or in-person tutoring, cultural and educational support and activities 4 days a week, the Native youth leadership council, and work with staff to develop quarterly Individual Educational Plans with identified goals for academic, culture connections, community engagement and well-being. We provide in-school time support with St. Paul and Minneapolis Indian Education classrooms and cultural/wellbeing groups and field trips in 4 suburban districts.
Job Summary
MIGIZI seeks a full-time Deputy Director to direct the creation and management of MIGIZI’s programs, external partnership management and operations as it relates to school and community partners and projects, program design, implementation, data collection, evaluation, and reporting.
The Deputy Director is a critical thought partner in setting the strategic direction and achieving the overarching goals and priorities for MIGIZI programs. She/he/they will have overall responsibility for planning, development, and supervision of programs and operations consistent with organizational mission, goals, and quality standards.
This position reports to the President.

Responsibilities
Strategic and Programmatic Leadership

Provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, program quality and data-driven outcomes for programs in two tracks: Culture, Leadership, Academic, Well-being (CLAW) -In and after school, summer programs and Indigenous Pathways: Media and Green Tech training /youth internships

Lead partnership development and implementation with community partners and organizations on our programs and projects across MIGIZI’s program areas

Lead the implementation of all strategic initiatives for programs; Define goals and evidence-based outcomes (short and long term) for the programs, consistent with outcomes

Provide vision and expertise for program design within each individual program and across the programs

Work collaboratively with other staff to develop vision, programmatic and operational cohesion across the entire organization – work plan development for programs that meet goals and objectives

Partnership and contract development for programs in school districts, after school, consultants, Green Tech partners and contracted revenue partners for First Person Productions

Drive high-quality implementation and assessment of all program models, as defined by contracts, grants and funders

Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of program performance data (In Salesforce and other documentation), in concert with program staff, external evaluators, and leadership

Facilitate cooperation and collaboration among program staff to achieve consistency in vision, approach, strategies, outcomes, and service delivery across program models. Track and utilize data to drive decision-making and best practices.

Provide leadership in reporting activities of programs for funders
Staff Leadership and Talent Development

Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performing staff, working with them to maintain consistent, high-quality programs and service delivery

Model effective leadership and help creative a positive culture with high morale, mutual support, and shared accountability for results

Analyze the professional development needs of individual staff and design staff development and advancement opportunities to address talent development

Delegate tasks to MIGIZI staff on various projects involving organizational partnerships/contracts

Supervise staff members, ensuring staff are organized and committed to fulfilling MIGIZI’s mission and vision

Foster a team approached philosophy within programming and throughout organization
External Affairs and Partnerships

Foster, strengthen and sustain collaborative relationships with all strategic partners, which includes school leadership, city and state agencies, public and private funders, non-profits, contracted partners, and others

Guide program staff in establishing and maintaining positive community-level partnerships throughout programming
-
Management of partnership agreements and contracts that support MIGIZI programs

Participate in organization-wide, community-wide, and department-wide events; and represent MIGIZI externally on relevant task forces and committees

Lead staff in recruitment of youth to programs to increase participation
Finance, Operations and Resource Development

Provide budget development and management in coordination with Finance and Administration

Ensure all human resource, fiscal and operations policies and procedures are implemented accurately and fully in full compliance with funding streams

Must be able to contribute to strong proposals, reports, presentations, and other technical writing to support resource development
Mandatory Knowledge and Skills

Excellent supervisory and leadership skills with ability to set and achieve goals, hold staff and oneself accountable, and provide constructive feedback/coaching

Strong knowledge of major contract deliverables in grants and ensuring goals and outcomes are met

Expertise working with youth in education and/cultural identity; teens a plus
-
Experience with training and internship programs for youth

Demonstrated success in building and sustaining strong partnerships with school leadership to support school-integrated programming

Highly collaborative with excellent relational and communication skills

Ability to manage complex programming, contracts, and budgets

Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Strongly preferred in Education, Social Work or Public Administration

A minimum of 10 years of experience in Youth Services, including demonstrated success in leadership roles

Deep understanding of youth development

Proven track record for managing government and partnership contracts
Compensation and Benefits
-
Salary Range is $70,000 - $80,000 per year. Benefits include health, dental, life, short- and long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) match up to 2% of salary. Paid time off starting at 22 days and 10 holidays. MIGIZI Communications is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
