Lead Renewable Energy Instructor

Job Description

Lead Renewable Energy Instructor is tasked with the creation, planning, coordination and monitoring implementation of Renewable Energy Pathway Instruction and Apprenticeship Opportunities leading to industry certifications for 16-24-year-old American Indian youth. Lead Renewable Energy Instructor supports the healthy development of American Indian youth and ensures the accomplishment of the goals, objectives, and outcomes as required. ​This position reports directly to MIGIZI President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pathway Training: Plan and deliver renewable energy instruction, hands-on projects, and technology-assisted learning during day and evening sessions, fall to spring.

  • Apprenticeship: Work with an Industry-Certified Instructor to plan and deliver a 9-week summer Solar PV Installation apprenticeships.

  • Network with other community nonprofits to coordinate and plan service learning projects deploying solar and other renewable energy resources within community.and systems to strengthen relationships and opportunities

  • Recruit renewable energy professional to present to youth on renewable energy topics and careers

  • Develop an annual work plan to meet goals and objectives

  • Participate in the collection of data, story collection and assessing outcomes through outcome tracker, and regular meeting to learn, celebrate and/or redefine strategies

  • Maintain timely and accurate program records in the organizational database

  • Recruit, assist and advise youth in pursuit of their goals

  • Manage and coordinate project activities and collaborate with project/program teams on a daily basis

  • Design and implement after-school and summer programming, coordinated with all MIGIZI staff

  • Assist in and contribute to project reports

  • Engage youth as full partners in activities

  • Communicate as required with families of youth served

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive background in Renewable Energy, and Green Career opportunities

  • Capability in collaboratively developing training/educational curriculum

  • Ability to manage youth in an experiential/project-based environment.

  • Contribute to a cooperative, collaborative and flexible work team environment

  • Model positive behaviors to youth and staff

  • Proven ability to actively engage youth and their families/guardians in the creation and pursuit of education and career goals

  • Minimum five years experience planning, coordination and successful implementation of educational and internship support activities with American Indian youth

  • Knowledge of American Indian values and cultural practices

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Minneapolis/St. Paul Indian communities

  • Background and ability to work with youth in a variety of settings and on a variety of projects

  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint)

  • Maintain confidentiality of required information

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required

  • Good driving record and ability to transport youth with an organizational vehicle.

  • Submit to a criminal background check as a prerequisite

 

Work Environment

Lead Renewable Energy Instructor works primarily in MIGIZI office settings and in a field environment with youth programming. A great deal of time may be spent standing and walking, and these individuals can frequently be exposed to the elements as well. These are normally salaried positions that require Monday - Friday average 40 hour work week, which can include nights and weekends.
